Leo Brouwer — Biography
Leo Brouwer is a composer, conductor, guitarist, researcher, pedagogue, and cultural advocate.
He stands among the most prominent musicians of our time, with a career that has significantly influenced
musical creation, performance, education, and cultural development worldwide.

Leo Brouwer has held numerous prominent positions in cultural and musical institutions and has maintained
an active international career as a conductor, composer, and cultural promoter.
- Established Cuba’s first film music departments at ICAIC (1960).
- Director of the Havana Musical Theatre (1962).
- Founder and Director of the ICAIC Sound Experimentation Group (1968).
- Guest Composer at the Berlin Academy of Arts (DAAD, 1970).
- Artistic Director of the Carrefour Mondial de la Guitare in Martinique (1976–2001).
- General Director of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba (1981–2003).
- Principal Conductor of the Córdoba Orchestra, Spain (1992–2001).
- He has conducted more than 120 symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles worldwide.
- Member of juries for numerous international competitions in guitar, composition, and orchestral conducting.
